Nvidia Promises 30 Tegra 3 Smartphones This Year - Chip maker Nvidia is getting ready for a
flurry of smartphones powered by its Tegra 3 quad-core application
processor, and it is now shy to talk about it. In fact, the company has just confirmed that it expects the number of such devices to grow up to 30, suggesting that some of them will come with low price tags.
At the company's annual investor meeting on Thursday, Nvidia GM Mike Rayfield talked about the company’s plans for the Tegra 3 chip in the smartphone segment.
He explained that 13 of the aforementioned 30 devices would arrive on shelves with a transfer price of under $300 (this is not the retail price that these phones will feature).
The numbers are impressive, especially when compared to the performance of Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chip, which made it inside smartphones in 2011.

There have been only 15 devices packing the Tegra 2 processor last year, and none of them was featuring a low cost.
